We need to go to permanent daylight standard time. I’m tired of the whining about the shorter days in winter. Daylight savings time is stupid, as the old saying goes, “only a fool cuts off one end of a rug and sews it to the other end and calls it longer.”

Dear Supreme Leader

It may not get an economic boost. It would

Eliminate confusion

Prevent sleep deprivation

Reduce auto fatalities

It’s not always about money you Ass Wipe!

Retvetnana's avatar

Just leave time natural! NO “daylight savings time” some stares do it. The whole country should!!

@mommyjewels's avatar

I don't think it will give us an economic boost but switching back and forth is bad for our health. It needs to end.

Wow, that’s swell! now we don’t have to use so much electricity reading the Epstein files!!!!!

In the UK, I would be in favour of a permanent BST (British Summer Time), but a permanent GMT would be my second vote. The ridiculous pushing the clocks forward and back again are my least favoured option. I'm also a bit puzzled why they get moved forward in summer? When the days are so much longer at these latitudes, surely it would make more sense to put the clocks forward when sunset is at 15:30?

Andrew Becker's avatar

Right? It makes no sense.

Nicholas Pretzel's avatar

Absolutely. The two arguments always put forward against referring to a single year round time were Scottish farmers objects and that children would have to go to school in the dark. The farmers argument turns out to have been false—why on earth would a cow care what time it is? I never understood that one—and as for the school children, they'll either go to or from school in the dark. I would have thought that, on the whole, drivers are more alert and fresher in the morning than the evening, so better to have more daylight in the late afternoon/evening. That's also why I favour a permanent DST. I will admit that I'm not a morning person and that does bias my opinion. Whatever, just settle on one or another. Our should we set off clocks forwards by five minutes every two weeks? It would be easier to adjust to, but it really illustrates how nutty the whole idea is.

Nicholas Pretzel's avatar

Excuse the typos: referring should have been reverting; objects = objections; our should we set off = or work we set our. Apologies.

Nicholas Pretzel's avatar

Excuse the numerous typos: referring = reverting; objects = objections; and our should we set off = or should we set our. My apologies, I don't usually miss so many.

We don't need no economic boost. Can't get any atm anyway. Just freeze the clock, FGS.

Mary Lee Delate's avatar

Oh no. I detest DST. I’m always feeling like I’m running late because we moved our clocks forward an hour from the natural time. Please do not.

Mary Brown's avatar

Science tells us that Standard time is best. Of course, that’s enough for Trump to

Demand DST

Mary Lee Delate's avatar

😭😭😭I believe it!

I hate. Trump..MF.leave me alone.

I wish he would focus on something really important that would help people rather than hurting them.

Mr trump needs to disengage from all government work. Even if he happened to stumble upon a decent concept, not likely his own discovery, he is so universally despised that any idea he presents is likely to be rejected out of hand. And honestly, who can blame anyone for that, except trump?

What it takes to much of his energy to look at his watch which I’m sure updates automatically? Ugh!!! It is annoying changing the oven and microwave time tho!

Nicholas Pretzel's avatar

Yeah, those are a pain, their instructions for changing the time often buried under a mountain of other detail. Especially ovens are rarely, if ever, ergonomically designed, the procedure far from intuitive. Back in the day every hamlet, village or larger conurbation had its own timezone: midday (12:00) set to when the sun was directly overhead. In other words, they set their clocks depending on their longitude. It was the advent of railways that made countries adopt a single time for the whole nation. With every stop having its own time zone it was virtually impossible to produce timetables. Allowing for the differences in time and relying on accurate information for the differences made it an incredibly complicated task. If times were always given as local time it still made things confusing. China actually covers several time zones (three hourly, I believe; there are time zones that differ by 15' and 30') but has one nationwide time standard, which must me a bugger for people at the extremes.

Fionas's avatar

Canada has 6 time zones.....

I’d rather it stayed in Standard Time all year long. The only advantage I see of Daylight savings time is the then the hour in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands would be the same as on the East Coast.

Whether or not there is an economic boost from being on a consistent schedule, there would most definitely be, based on science, a big boost in health and a reduction in moving vehicle fatalities. This is the right action, but for the wrong reasons. This is the first time in this presidency that I have actually agreed with Trump about one of his edicts.
